Proven Leadership on the Town Council: In her first three months, Meghan has worked across the aisle with legislators to :
Brought down the cost to taxpayers for Summer Camp at Nooteeming, while also keeping fees low for parents
Re-introduced the Fund Balance Policy that would hold the town to a reasonable fund balance and to reviewing how much the town is holding in reserves
Create a new Economic Development Committee to take action on empty businesses downtown
Made democratic town board rules that allow all board members to introduce topics
Create a personnel committee that helped fill vacancies that had been open for months
Ensured planning and zoning board appointments were qualified candidates
Community Involvement: Meghan has proven her dedication to Pleasant Valley with 9 years of leadership on multiple PTA board and school committees. Not only has she shown up for our students, her work on these boards has transformed events, raised more than $100,000 for schools and invested in enrichment and field trips, and influenced decisionmaking.
Town involvement: Meghan hasn't waited to be elected to get involved in Pleasant Valley. Last March the town approved her idea for a beautification committee. She recruited the majority of the members, who are skilled organizers, designers and landcapers. The committee has already applied for a Greenways grant, organized an Adopt A Month program and 3 town clean ups, and created a Gateway sign landscape design awaiting town funding. Meghan is also working on a certification effort to would open up millions in funding for our town.
Expertise in Governance: For 20 years Meghan was a community journalist, attending hundreds of town board, planning board and zoning meetings. She's written about how towns work well and analyzed where they need work. There's no learning curve here, she's ready to implement best practices in Pleasant Valley.
Smart, Local Business Partner: Meghan and her husband, Steve, (aka Mr and Mrs Borland) have run a successful business in Pleasant Valley for 15 years. With Main Street stores, Meghan knows what it takes to thrive here and can guide the town to support growth.
